General

Yes — completely. There are no plans, no trial periods, and no feature limits. LightLoop is free for everyone. The infrastructure (Cloudflare Workers, D1, R2) is operated by the LightLoop team. Media storage is in your own Google Drive — you pay nothing for that either (nonprofits on Google Workspace for Nonprofits get 100 TB free). If LightLoop saves your organization time and money and you’d like to contribute, there’s an optional supporter gift option in Account Settings — but it’s entirely voluntary.
Not currently. LightLoop is built specifically for Apple TV (tvOS). Apple TV was chosen for its reliability, consistent hardware, offline storage capabilities, and the automatic restart behavior needed for unattended displays.Support for other platforms is not currently planned.
No. Google sign-in is required because LightLoop stores all media files in Google Drive. Google Drive provides the free, reliable storage that makes LightLoop cost-free to use.
All your files are in your Google Drive — they’re yours. LightLoop stores references and metadata, but the actual media is always in your control. You can access, download, or move your files at any time through Google Drive directly.

Apple TV

LightLoop supports Apple TV HD (4th generation, 2015) and all Apple TV 4K models (2017, 2021, 2022 and later). It requires tvOS 16 or later.Apple TV 3rd generation and older are not supported — they don’t run tvOS apps.
Yes. As many Apple TVs as you want can subscribe to the same feed. They all receive updates simultaneously via WebSocket. If you want different screens to show different content, create separate feeds and give each Apple TV its own Feed ID.
First, check that the Apple TV has an internet connection. If it does:
  1. The WebSocket may have disconnected — the TV polls every 30 seconds as a fallback, so updates arrive within 30 seconds even if the WebSocket is down.
  2. Restart the LightLoop app on the Apple TV to force a fresh connection.
  3. If the problem persists, check your server URL in the Apple TV settings — make sure it hasn’t changed.
Apple TV has a specific set of supported video codecs. The most common cause is:
  • HEVC (H.265) — supported on Apple TV 4K only, not on Apple TV HD
  • Variable frame rate — some cameras (especially GoPro and iPhone) record VFR; some Apple TVs have trouble with this
  • ProRes or other editing codecs — these are for production, not playback
  • High bit rate — very high bit rate files may stall
Fix: Re-export the video as H.264, MP4, constant frame rate at 1080p or 4K. Most video editing apps have a “Compatibility” or “Web” export preset that works well.
Enable Prevent screensaver in the feed settings:
  1. Open the feed in the dashboard
  2. Click Settings
  3. Toggle on Prevent screensaver
  4. Save
The Apple TV will stay awake during playback.
Yes. Place the LightLoop app in the top-left position of the Apple TV home screen. tvOS resumes the last-used app after a restart, so as long as LightLoop was the last thing playing, it will relaunch automatically.Additionally, check Settings → Apps → LightLoop on tvOS for an “Open on Startup” option if available on your tvOS version.

Media & Uploads

H.264 (AVC), MP4 container, constant frame rate. This is compatible with every Apple TV model and is the safest choice. For 4K screens with an Apple TV 4K, you can also use H.265 (HEVC) for smaller file sizes.Avoid ProRes, MXF, AVI, WMV, and other production formats — convert them before uploading.
There’s no hard size limit from LightLoop. Files upload directly to your Google Drive, so the practical limit is your available Drive storage.Keep in mind that large files take longer to download to the Apple TV. A 1 GB video takes about 14 minutes on a 10 Mbps connection. Try to push changes well before your service starts.
Yes — use the Web snapshot feature. Set the URL to your published Google Slides presentation (in “Present” mode) and set a device profile of TV. LightLoop will screenshot the current slide and refresh it on your configured interval.Note: auto-advancing slides require a timed redirect in the presentation itself, or you can export each slide as an image and upload them individually.
PDFs are not directly supported as playable media. To show a PDF on screen:
  1. Export it as a series of JPEG images (one per page), or
  2. Open it in Google Slides and use the Web snapshot feature, or
  3. Export to video using a tool like Canva

Integrations

Not directly, but you can:
  1. Use the PCO Calendar integration to show upcoming service times
  2. Export your service plan to a Canva design and import it
  3. Use a Web snapshot pointed at a PCO public calendar URL
  1. Confirm the Welcome Party item is added to a playlist in the active feed
  2. Confirm the Apple TV is connected and receiving updates (check for real-time sync)
  3. If using PCO: verify your PCO connection is active in Integrations and the correct event is selected
  4. If using Kidddo: use the Send Test Greeting button in the Welcome Party item detail to verify the webhook pipeline end-to-end
  5. Check that the Apple TV has an internet connection (Welcome Party requires live data)
No. LightLoop uses the drive.file scope, which means it can only see and access files it created. Your personal photos, documents, and other Drive content are invisible to LightLoop.

Account & Privacy

  1. Click your profile picture → Settings
  2. Scroll to Danger Zone
  3. Click Delete Account
  4. Confirm
This permanently deletes all your LightLoop data — playlists, feeds, media metadata, team members, and integrations. Your media files in Google Drive are also deleted unless you’ve moved them out of the LightLoop folder first.
No. Collaborators sign in with their own Google accounts. They interact with your media through LightLoop’s interface — they never have direct access to your Google Drive.
