# Connect an Apple TV

> Pair your Apple TV with a LightLoop feed and start playing content on any screen.

## Requirements

* Apple TV **4th generation or newer** (Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K)
* LightLoop app installed from the App Store
* A LightLoop account with at least one feed created

## Pairing the Apple TV

When you open LightLoop for the first time, the setup screen shows two ways to connect:

### Option 1 — Scan the QR code (easiest)

    Launch the LightLoop app. The setup screen appears automatically showing a QR code on the left side.

    Open your phone's camera (or a QR scanner) and point it at the TV. Tap the notification to open `lightloop.app/activate` in your browser.

    You must be **signed in to LightLoop** on your phone. If you're not, you'll be prompted to sign in first.

  <Step title="Select a feed">
    Your feeds appear as a list. Tap the feed you want this TV to display.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Done">
    The Apple TV connects automatically — no typing required. Your phone returns to the LightLoop dashboard.

### Option 2 — Enter your Feed ID manually

    In the web dashboard, open the **Feeds** tab and select your feed. The **Feed ID** is the 6-character code shown (e.g., `AB12CD`).

  <Step title="Type the Feed ID on Apple TV">
    On the setup screen, select the Feed ID field on the right side and type the code using the on-screen keyboard. It is not case-sensitive.

    The app validates the ID and begins fetching your feed.

## What happens after connecting

Once connected, the Apple TV:

1. **Downloads all media** in the feed to local storage
2. **Opens a live WebSocket** connection to receive instant updates from the dashboard
3. **Polls every 30 seconds** as a fallback if the WebSocket is interrupted
4. **Begins playback automatically** once a playlist has finished downloading

## Multiple Apple TVs, one feed

You can connect as many Apple TVs as you want to the same feed. All TVs receive the same updates simultaneously.

For different screens showing different content, create a separate feed for each screen.

## Changing orientation

If your screen is mounted vertically (portrait mode), set the orientation in the dashboard before pairing:

1. Open the feed in the dashboard
2. Click **Settings**
3. Under **Orientation**, choose **Portrait Left** or **Portrait Right**
4. Save — the Apple TV will rotate its layout automatically

## Disconnecting a TV

To unpair an Apple TV from a feed:

1. On the Apple TV, open the app menu (press and hold the Menu button, or navigate to the settings gear)
2. Select **Disconnect**
3. The app clears all cached files and returns to the setup screen

  Disconnecting removes all locally cached media from the device. Reconnecting will re-download everything from scratch.
