# Installation

> Install LightLoop on Apple TV from the App Store.

## Supported devices

LightLoop runs on any of the following:

| **Apple TV 4K (3rd gen, 2022)** | Recommended — fastest downloads, best 4K playback |
| **Apple TV 4K (2nd gen, 2021)** | Fully supported                                   |
| **Apple TV 4K (1st gen, 2017)** | Fully supported                                   |
| **Apple TV HD (4th gen, 2015)** | Fully supported; limited to 1080p                 |

<Warning>
  Apple TV 3rd generation (the older black box) and earlier models do **not** support tvOS apps and cannot run LightLoop.

  **Budget Tip:**\
  If you're not afraid of pre-owned tech, check-out eBay, OfferUp, and Facebook Marketplace - you can often find perfectly functional (11-year-old) Apple TV HD's (2015) for \$30-\$50 that still run the latest tvOS (26.x). So with Apple's typical development cycle even one of these *"vintage"* devices should still be able to receive LightLoop updates for at least another decade.

## Installing from the App Store

    From the Apple TV home screen, open the **App Store** app.

    Navigate to the **Search** tab and type `LightLoop`.

  <Step title="Install the app">
    Select the LightLoop app and click **Get** (it's free). The app downloads and appears on your home screen.

## Auto-launch on boot

For lobby or unattended displays, you'll want LightLoop to launch automatically whenever the Apple TV restarts.

To configure this on tvOS:

1. Go to **Settings → Apps → LightLoop**
2. Enable **Open on Startup** (if available on your tvOS version)

Alternatively, place the LightLoop app in the **top row** of your Apple TV home screen. tvOS restores the last-used app after a reboot, so as long as LightLoop was the last thing playing, it resumes automatically.

## tvOS version requirements

LightLoop requires **tvOS 17 or later**. To check your current version:

1. Go to **Settings → System → Software Updates**
2. Your current tvOS version is shown at the top

If you're on an older version, select **Update Software** to upgrade.
